Forest Station “Borovo”

The forest station “Borovo” is nestled in part of the Western Rhodopi Mountains, within the Rila-Rhodopi Hunting region. The station is situated on the southern slopes of the Batak Mountains, under the peak “Batashki Snezhnik.” The territory of the area is spread over a wide range of sea levels, from 500m at the reservoir “Antonivanovtsi,” to the 2082 meters of “Batashki Snezhnik.” Accordingly, the territory features the characteristics of three different climates, Mediterranean, Temperate and Alpine.

The Station is 150 km from Sofia, 70 km from Plovdiv and 50 km from Pazardjik. The headquarters of the station can be found along a well maintained road from the city of Peshtera, through the village of Nova Mahala, just before coming to the village of Fotinovo. The diversity of the habitats and comparative isolation of the station from large population centers makes the station an ideal location for hunting the rich wildlife of the area.

The station is endowed with a rich collection of deer, wild boar and wild goats. Among the birds, there are beautiful examples of the Cappercallie, the Partridge, the Rock-Partridge, the wild pigeon, the hazel hen and others. There are ample opportunities to catch rainbow and river trout, carp and the river barbel. Among predators, there are bears, wolves, foxes, wild cats and otters. Yearly, hunters fire on 5-7 wolves and 15-25 foxes. In addition to hunting trips, the station organizes excursions to Plovdiv, Devin, the Trigrad Gorge, Batak and other places. In the future, horse-back rides will be available through some of the most beautiful corners of the Rhodopis, through forest station “Borovo.”
